We’ve been waiting (not so patiently) for Old Man Winter to show up! There are plenty of people who are itching to hit the slopes, rev up the snowmobile, or have a good old fashioned snowball fight. On the flip side, there are plenty of people who want to spend their social distanced winter at home. If that’s you but the idea of staying huddled under a blanket isn’t appealing to you, don’t worry. Enjoy the snow under your louvered roof!

A louvered roof is perfect to make your patio winter wonderland ready. The really nice thing about a louvered roof is that you can leave it open when it’s not snowing or close it with the push of a button when it is. It can also hold up to 60 lbs. per square foot of snow.

And there are still ways for you to stay warm and cozy while outside.

Create a Warm Space

It’s no secret that it’s much easier to enjoy the snow when you are comfortable. So in addition to your louvered roof, let’s create a warm space outdoors for you. Here are a few ideas to keep you comfy while getting fresh, crisp winter air.

  • Patio heaters. These can definitely bring some warmth to your deck or other outdoor space. They come in tons of different shapes and sizes. Check out this article from Business Insider showing the top picks for 2021.
  • Chimeneas or portable fireplace. The crackling of a fire is something that always brings back happy winter memories. This is an affordable way to add a fireplace to your patio.
  • Heated chair. Relax those muscles in a nice heated chair. You’ll feel warm and snug as you watch that snow fall.
  • Pet bed. Now that you have a comfortable place to lounge, put one out for your best friend. They will feel as cozy as you on one of our gel-infused pet beds.
  • Teepee/tent. Watching snow fall can be so relaxing especially when you are warm. Having a teepee or tent set-up will give you a place to sleep or just hang out so you can enjoy the entire night outside.
  • Inflatable movie screen. Okay, as we’ve established, we’re waiting on some snow but until we get it, you can still enjoy your time under your louvered roof. Just rent an inflatable movie screen and voila! You’ve got some outdoor entertainment.

Louvered Roof Features

Here are just a few of the many features a louvered roof offers.

  • Shade Control – by operating the motorized louvers with the remote control, you can fully open or fully close to adjust the shade exactly where you need it.
  • Sun Control – when you want the sun on the patio, coming through your windows or patio doors, you can easily get it by opening the louvers at a slant, to provide up to 85% of the natural light.
  • Ventilation Control – with Louvered Roofs, you get almost 100% ventilation. When the louvers are open, they are parallel to each other.
  • Rain Control – the Louvered Roof has interlocking louvers with a drip edge, so the rain simply runs into the louver troughs, and then out into the full perimeter gutter. It can then run into the post as a downspout or through a regular downspout. It can also be saved into a rain storage device or directed to the lawn or garden. Because of the gutter screens, you will never have to clean out leaves!

We would love to get you set-up with a louvered roof so that you can enjoy your winter when it finally shows up! Give us a call at 801-563-9600 to get going on your customized design!

It’s the beginning of December which means we can’t wait for snow! Snow has a way of making the world seem more beautiful. The peaceful feeling you get when you see the pristine white flakes falling at night or the sparkle that happens when the sun hits it just right. There’s one thing that some might not look forward to with snow – removal. But for over 30 years, SugarHouse Industries has been making snow removal a little bit easier with Snow Shields.

How Do Snow Shields Work?

Snow Shields remove hundreds of square feet of snow in minutes. Just lay the Snow Shield out before a storm, attach the corners to overhead cranes after the snow has fallen, and lift. If you are using Snow Shields at home, you can easily attach them to a four-wheeler, UTV, etc. to pull the tarp off your driveway. It will make snow removal easier on your back and you’ll have more time to spend with the out of town relatives. Yes, that’s a good thing 😉

Who says you have to stop working on your outdoor space once the temperature drops? Fall is a great time to get some projects done so when warmer weather returns, you’ll be one step closer to enjoying time outside. Let’s fall into new projects.

SugarHouse has some brand new products that will definitely enhance your space. They will also give you a place to relax and enjoy this beautiful fall weather!

They are affordable and durable plus adds beauty to your yard. These pergolas are used a lot to provide shade and privacy over hot tubs – which is such a nice way to unwind in the fall. They can be mounted on any surface including a wooden deck, concrete slab, or the ground.

  • Robust aluminum frame. Made from commercial-grade materials that are 100% rust free and 4-times stronger and more durable than what is available through large-box retailers.
  • The adjustable panels block up to 95% of UV rays without trapping the heat or airflow.

Railings

Fall evenings spent on your deck with a cup of hot cocoa and wrapped in a blanket. Sounds pretty nice. Unless you have an unsightly railing that is ruining your view.

Update your out-of-date or unfashionable railings on your porch or outdoor stairs. Railings provide safety but they can also be quite beautiful. SugarHouse now offers three different types of railings – iron, cable, and glass.

Our iron railing is a pre-welded, easily customized railing that provides a classic appearance that is versatile for a variety of applications and surfaces. Pre-galvanized steel, zinc phosphate e-coat, and premium powder coating make it the most elegant and durable steel railing system on the market.

Virtually maintenance-free, our horizontal cable railing panels our unobstructed views of your backyard. No need to tension your system on a regular basis, as is the case with competitor’s products. We also coat our products with a durable multi-layered anti-corrosion coating technology adopted from the high-end automotive industry to ensure enduring beauty.

Enjoy slick, modern aesthetic coupled with low maintenance. Glass railings allow natural sunlight to radiate in and open outdoor spaces and enhance views. Our simple drop-in solution simplifies the installation process and it’s more cost-effective than custom cut-glass panels.

Gate and Railing Accent Lighting

In addition to our railings, we also offer gates for outdoor stairwells and lighting post caps for your railings. Available in both aluminum and steel to match your railing, our gates convert your outdoor space into a safe area for your family and pets.

Our energy-efficient LED lighting post caps bring your outdoor space out of the Dark Ages. Easily transform any railing style with our waterproof LED light kit. Backed by a 10-year warranty, its thermal management system offers a power supply option with a timer, dimmer, and photocell.

A crisp fall breeze. Crackling light from the fire pit. Comfy furniture and even comfier clothes. We’ve had our first taste of cooler temperatures and now it’s time to get ready for fall! But what if you’re not ready to say goodbye to spending time outside? Well, you don’t have to. We can bring your cozy outdoor dreams to life with the help of some products from SugarHouse.

Let the Sun In, Keep the Rain Out

One of our favorite products for making your outdoor space a year-round getaway is a louvered roof. This is a unique patio/deck cover that can let sunlight in or be closed to provide shade and weather protection. Bonus, it can handle up to 60 lbs per square foot of snow!

Here are some features of the louvered roof:

  • Shade Control – by operating the motorized louvers with the remote control, you can fully open or fully close to adjust the shade exactly where you need it.
  • Sun Control – when you want the sun on the patio, coming through your windows or patio doors, you can easily get it by opening the louvers at a slant, to provide up to 85% of the natural light.
  • Ventilation Control – with Louvered Roof’s, you get almost 100% ventilation.

Warm-Up Your Patio

Keep your patio comfortable this fall with a Verticool rope-operated drop shade. These drop shades offer year-round weather protection at an affordable price. This is ideal to transition from summer to fall. You can keep all of your favorite patio furniture out and add little touches of autumn coziness. Here are a few ideas to help you do that.

  • If you don’t have a fire pit already, get one! This is something you can use for a lot of the year. Making smores in the summer and having hot cider next to the fire on a cool fall night.
  • Add some soft pillows in fall colors to your chairs, couch, etc. We can definitely help you with that and recover any furniture with our upholstery services.
  • Don’t forget that cushy blanket to snuggle up with.
  • Hang some lighting. You’ll have some light from the fire pit but a little extra twinkle from string lights or hanging lanterns gives the right touch.
  • Don’t have anywhere to hang lighting? Check out some outdoor lighting ideas from ylighting.com
  • Keep your feet nice and warm by laying down an outdoor rug.

Cover It Up

If you’re worried about outdoor valuables that won’t be protected by a drop shade or louver roof, we can still help you out. Waterproof, UV protect, and winterize these assets with a custom canvas cover. Protect A/C coils from snow and ice, prevent pitting on the exterior of a grill, wear and tear on your outdoor furniture, and hinder freezing of an outdoor fountain. There is no limit to the custom canvas products we offer.

We use heavy-duty, commercial-grade fabric that is handcrafted in the USA. With a top-rated 7 year warranty plus 100% satisfaction guarantee, this fabric is fade and stain-proof.

Let’s protect your fire pit, outdoor kitchen, and grill. Give us a call at 801-563-9600 to bring your cozy outdoor dreams to life.

4 Reasons to Cover Your Air Conditioner This Fall

With cold weather fast approaching, it’s time to think about winter-proofing your house, and your air conditioning unit is no exception. To make sure your air conditioner is ready to go when summer comes again, take some extra steps now to protect it from the frost and ice. First, we’ll talk about the reasons you should cover your AC unit, and then we’ll discuss the right and wrong way to do it.

Why covering your a/c in the fall is a good idea

Image result for leaves inside ac unit

Leaves and dust can cause very serious issues if they become trapped in your AC coils. Especially as Autumn winds and storms start to pick up, debris can get easily caught in the sensitive fins of your condenser coil. It’s important to not only clean your coils before the winter season, but cover the unit to stop more dirt from accumulating.

Image result for snow on air conditioner

A very light frost on the top of your air conditioning unit won’t harm it. After all, it was built to be an outside machine. But letting inches of snow and ice accumulate on the machine can damage the coil fins and fan blades, damage you may not even know about until you try to turn the machine on next summer.

Image result for ice on gutters

Ice falling from the gutters or corners of your roof can do a surprising amount of damage to the insides of your air conditioning unit if it happens to hit in the right place. A cover will stop the ice from penetrating inside.

Image result for mildew in air conditioner unit

As Autumn turns into Winter, there is a lot of rain and moisture. Keeping this water out of your air conditioning unit entirely isn’t possible, but the less moisture that gets in, the less likely your chances of mold and mildew growing inside your machine.

The right way to cover your air conditioner

These are all great reasons to cover your AC when Fall comes, but there is a right way and a wrong way to cover your unit. Covering your air conditioning unit too tightly in non-breathable plastic can actually increase your chances of rust or mold growth by not allowing condensation to escape. It can also encourage pests and insects to take up residence in your air conditioning unit, since it is now a protected, waterproof spot.

To cover your air conditioner correctly, use a cover made of breathable material that allows for air flow. If heavy snow is an issue where you live, try putting a sheet of plywood down on top of the unit, and weighing it down with rocks, to keep snow off. If you can, building a shelter with a slanted top so snow and ice don’t accumulate is best. And planting protective shrubs and trees around your AC can also protect it, though you want to be careful that the plants won’t obstruct air flow in the summer.

Sugarhouse AC covers always come in a perfect fit, guaranteed to fit your unit with corner openings to make room for any pipes, and an adjustable cinch rope around the bottom to ensure a tight fit. Sugarhouse AC covers are made of heavy duty canvas prevents condensation while still remaining breathable. The commercial grade canvas is also fade resistant and waterproof, to protect against moisture and debris. And every cover comes with a 10 or 20 year warranty, plus the Sugarhouse 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

Get Your Patio Ready for Spring

March 25, 2019

Getting sick of looking at the same winter grays and browns? Ready to open those windows and let the fresh air of a new year in? Don’t despair, spring is almost here, and winter is on its way out. Getting sick of looking at the same winter grays and browns? Ready to open those windows and let the fresh air of a new year in? Don’t despair, spring is almost here, and winter is on its way out. But before you start planning barbecues and pool parties, take a little time to really prepare your patio for the upcoming warm weather with a few simple steps.

Give Everything a Thorough Cleaning

Cleaning isn’t just so your patio furniture can look good. A really thorough Spring cleaning makes sure that all your surfaces are free from accumulated dust and pollution that degrade and eat away at surfaces over time. This is especially important for any outdoor fabrics that have weathered the winter. Scrub down any outdoor pillows, and pay special attention to wicker, which can easily hide a build-up of mold. If you have awnings, give SugarHouse a call. We can get them professionally prepped and ready to face another season of sun.

Plan Your Improvements

Spring is the perfect time to make any changes you’ve been contemplating. Landscaping is exactly the sort of project that should be started before the summer sun starts to come around. Want a few more flowers in the backyard? Sego lilies, coneflowers, and irises all do well in the Utah climate. Thinking about painting the deck or adding an outdoor kitchen and grilling area? The sooner you get started on these projects, the prettier your yard will look come July.

Do the Repairs You Need To

This one is important. It can be easy to put off basic repairs, especially when they are out of sight and out of mind all winter. Spring is the time to give your deck an inspection for rotten wood or mold spots, mend the fence, and fix that loose stepping stone in the yard. Don’t put off today something that will only be worse tomorrow.

Refresh Your Look

If you’re craving a new, fresh look for the backyard, you don’t have to gut the whole design and start from scratch. Sometimes a simple fix like painting the furniture you already have a new, bright color can completely transform your outdoor living space. Look for outdoor pillows, mats, and privacy curtains that bring warm, summery colors to the palette. Lanterns, solar lights, and hanging lights are simple to install, but they cover your deck in magic come evening. Keep your eyes open for accent pieces that will add delight to your flower beds. New awnings in complimentary colors can freshen up the look of your whole backyard.

Let SugarHouse Help you Get Ready for Spring
Browse our selection of awnings and find the one that is right for you. Contact us if your patio furniture needs reupholstering or if your awning  needs cleaning or repairs.

Remember, the cozier your outdoor patio feels, the more time you’ll want to spend on it creating memories!

Tips to Prepare your Patio for Winter

Face it. Winter is coming. It might break your heart to pack up your patio, but taking the time to winterize your outdoor space now before the snow comes will make it that much quicker to start using it again in the spring.

Here are a few basic winterizing tips that will make your life that much easier in April.

Cover Your AC Unit

This first tip is one most new homeowners don’t think of, but covering up your outdoor AC unit will protect it from harsh weather and maintain the life of your unit longer. Sugar House makes custom AC unit covers with high-quality, industrial-grade material that is durable and resistant to fading or tearing. They are built to withstand rain, hail, or heavy snow—anything the winter might throw at you.

Protect Your Furniture

Don’t leave your patio furniture out to weather the winter alone. Anything that cannot be moved into storage should be properly covered with a thick, durable material to protect it from snow and ice and to prevent mildew, warping, cracking, or fading. Sugar House makes customized canvas covers to fit any shape, so even your custom-made grilling center can be properly protected.

Store Your Garden Accessories

There’s nothing sadder than having the snow finally melt and finding your favorite spade has been sitting in the dirt and wet the whole winter and is now rusted beyond saving. Set aside a place in your garage or shed specifically for your garden tools to keep them easily accessible when planting season finally arrives. Having everything in order now will make it easier to motivate yourself when the sun finally comes back.

Clean the Grill

Cleaning your grill before winter will save you any nasty surprises in a few months as well as extend the life of your grill. Grills are always easier to clean when warm, so before cleaning grates and internal parts, run the grill on high heat for fifteen minutes. This will help loosen up any stray chunks of food or char. If your grill cannot be moved into a garage or storage space, it needs to be tightly covered with a thick, waterproof material to protect it from harsh weather exposure.

Winterize Your Outdoor Faucets

First, make sure to disconnect and properly store any outdoor hoses to prevent cracking and rotting. Next, shut off your outdoor valves from the inside by turning them completely clockwise. After shut-off, go outside and turn on all the faucets to drain any water left in them. If you live in a particularly harsh winter region, think about getting exterior insulation sleeves for your faucets as well.

Clean Your Gutters

It’s one of the least liked household chores, but it’s absolutely necessary to the health of your house. Making sure water can drain clearly and properly will prevent leaks, roofing issues, and foundation flooding. Getting rid of the build-up of debris and autumn leaves will also lead to a much less stressful spring.
