  7. Your Summer Shade Essentials

Summer is finally here and we have your summer shade essentials! We’ve been waiting for the sun but that doesn’t mean we always want it beating down on us. We’ve got you covered, literally, for all of the summer.

With all of our amazing shade solutions, how can you pick just one? Well, you shouldn’t! But to make it a little bit easier, we’ve picked some of our most popular ones for this summer.

An update on the classic pergola, our Timberpeak pergola is a beautiful shade structure made out of Douglas Fir. It can be stained in multiple finishes of Messmer’s stain. The structure can be free-standing or be mounted to a wall. Don’t worry about what to do with it when it snows since the rafters are spaced 16”-24” depending on the snow load. There are also knee braces that provide strength and durability while adding beauty and contrast to the horizontal and vertical beams and posts.

For further shade, you can add a couple more SugarHouse products to the Timberpeak pergola.

  • Our Shadeglide slide-wire cable canopy can add even more beauty, style, and shade to your already gorgeous pergola. This canopy can be retracted so you can still enjoy the open and airy feeling of the pergola. However, when you want a little shade, easily extend the canopy for sleek coverage.
  • Our Verticool drop shades can be easily mounted to a Timberpeak so you can simply drop them to provide protection and shade.

Our Verticool drop shades are one of our most popular products. They will make your outdoor living space an inviting place where your friends and family will want to spend time this summer.

Verticool Exterior Drop Shades are available in both motorized and manual options. The motorized option comes with a wireless remote control that lowers the shade with the press of a button. The manual option uses a hand crank and when not in use, the crank can be removed and stored.

Verticool Rope-Operated Drop Shades provide shade with the drop of a rope. When you want more light, simply pull on the rope to raise. Cleats are attached at the side and bottom of the screen to secure it when it is extended or retracted.

Drop shades not only provide protection and shade like mentioned above but also add privacy, reduce cooling costs, and enhance the look of your home. In addition to keeping you cool in the summer, they can keep you warm in the winter by blocking cold winter winds. This allows you to utilize your backyard space for most of the year!

Well-known and reliable fabrics like Textilene® and Awntex®, and Sunbrella® are used to make Verticool. Sunbrella is only used on the rope-operated version providing 100% protection but it is not see-through like the mesh fabrics. But the rope-operated can also be done in Textilene and Awntex. Textilene and Awntex carry a 5-10 year limited warranty. Other features include:

  • 85%-95% sun protection while still see-through meaning it blocks the sun but not your view!
  • Numerous color options to choose from.
  • Features Microban® technology – an antimicrobial that inhibits the growth of stains and odor-causing bacteria.

You can also incorporate Verticool with several of our other backyard enhancing products.

  • Shadeglide slide-wire cable canopy
  • Suntamer Tension Panels are free-standing structures that can be temporary or permanent. They provide shade from above and are open all around. However, when paired with Verticool, you can drop your shades to give you even more protection or privacy when the sun becomes too hot.
  • Our Louvered Roof is a very unique aluminum patio cover that can be opened to let sunlight in or closed for weather protection or shade.

The weather might be perfect now but it’s going to get hot fast! Let’s get started on your summer shade essentials so you can enjoy your backyard as long as possible. Give us a call at 801-563-9600 for more information.
