Verticool Motorized Installation Instructions
Congratulations on your purchase of a retractable patio awning or exterior drop shade from SugarHouse Industries. With occasional cleaning and care you will enjoy your shade product for many years.
PART 1: MOUNTING THE END BRACKETS.
Use the width of your Verticool to determine the mounting location of your end brackets. If your shade measures 96” you will mount the end brackets 96” apart from the outer edge of each bracket. Mount the Drive Bracket on the side designated for the motor and power cord. Level your brackets using your level to ensure your Verticool will work properly. You will need to use a string level if the mounting surface isn’t level. If the brackets are not mounted level
with each other the Verticool will not function. Each bracket requires (2) 1/4” hex head screws with washers. Use a 3/16” drill bit to prevent splitting.
Note: Side of the Drive Bracket is determined by which side the motor will be installed on.
PART 2: INSERTING THE VERTICOOL INTO THE BRACKETS.
Step 1:
Remove the security clip from the drive bracket and Idler bracket. Insert the drive end into the drive bracket and secure with security clip. The cords should exit the back of the bracket.
Step 2:
Slide the idler end into the idler bracket and secure with security pin. Adjust the gasket until in contact with the roller tube to prevent tube from free floating.
PART 3: INSTALLING THE CABLE GUIDES.
Step 1: Run the cable through the cable bracket before leveling the cable. Use the bracket to level the cable and mark the location of the cable bracket. Repeat this step for the opposite side. Once you have the location of the cable brackets mark the holes for easier installation.
Step 2: Remove the cable from the cable guide before attaching the cable brackets. Attach the cable brackets where you marked your holes. Use a 1/8” drill bit to prevent splitting.
PART 4: TENSIONING THE CABLES.
Step 1: Thread the cables through the hem bar
Step 2: Thread the cables through the cable guide brackets. Pull the cables tight and use a flat head screwdriver or a 5/16” socket to tighten the crimping bolt.
Step 3: Once you have the cables leveled and your brackets installed, pull the cable taught from the bottom of the bracket and use your flat head screwdriver or 7/16” hex driver to clamp the cable securely into the cable clamp. Take care during this step, the cables cannot be unclamped once this process has been completed.
CAUTION: CAREFUL NOT TO OVER TIGHTEN THESE SCREWS OR THEY WILL SHEAR AND NEED TO BE REPLACED.
Step 4: Using your 1/2” open end wrench and pliers tighten the tension nut on the bottom of the cable clamp to tighten the cables. Approximately 4-5 turns should be enough. Using the lock nut on the top of the cable clamp, lock the cable clamp in place. Cut off the excess cable using your cable cutters.
